I have spoken with members of the Green Party of Canada who are concerned about foreign policy and the way Canada deals with countries with major human rights violations. The Green Party of Canada “Green Book” (Policy book) lacks prescriptive ways Canada should deal with ongoing and future relations with these countries.
The full policy proposal document can be found in this link and the 50 word proposal is as follows:
Be it resolved that the Green Party of Canada will support disentanglement of trade with, reduction of dependency from, and multilateral actions for restrictive measures against countries where evidence supports gross and systematic violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) or other international covenants on human rights.
As this proposal requires at least 20 party member sponsors in order to move forward, we are asking members in good standing to strongly consider sponsoring the proposal. We are open to feedback and suggestions for amendments. Please email elvin.kao@greenparty.ca with your full name if you would like to either sponsor the proposal or offer feedbacks.
The GPC is a grassroots party and policies are drafted by local memberships and voted in by party members. You can learn more about Proposal Process here.
